Bleacher Report has been making some peculiar comments about the Chicago Bears recently. Today, we look into their Allen Robinson take

Bleacher Report is looking for content. I get it, heck, I am spinning their stories into content of my own. Still, it feels as though my pieces need to be written, so that the voice of Bleacher Report is not one that becomes the voice of the national audience.

Earlier this week Bleacher Report said the wide receivers of the Chicago Bears were a bigger flaw than the teams outside linebackers. Then, they not only said that the Chicago Bears had an elite backup situation, they also said the Buffalo Bills were in a great spot. Now, they are calling for Allen Robinson to disappoint. The reason? He tore his ACL last year. Heres the explanation:

"Robinson practiced for the first time since the injury during the Bears’ May minicamp, but it’s safe to say Chicago isn’t sure what it has in Robinson. If he gets back to his 2015 numbers, that would be huge for the Bears’ passing offense, but given his 2016 regression and the specter of the 2017 injury, that’s a tough bet."

Let’s start the idea that he regressed in 2016. He did not regress as much as Blake Bortles is an awful quarterback. In 2015, the Jacksonville Jaguars defense ranked 26th in the NFL in DVOA.

Add in Blake Bortles throwing his picks and we have a team playing in garbage time. A lot. That means big time stats, for not only Robinson, but Blake Bortles.

In 2016, the Jaguars defense improved to 12th overall. Blake Bortles stayed the same. So, in tighter, lower scoring games, the margin for error from Bortles was exploited. If you watch the Jaguars from 2015-2016 this is not some mind blowing take I just made.

So yes, Mitchell Trubisky could be as bad as Blake Bortles. In that case, maybe Allen Robinson would struggle in a similar capacity. Ok, sure.

Of course, Robinson is coming off of an ACL injury. Still, the report mentions his progression already being made. Yes, it is just June, and that is too early to overreact to Robinson cutting on turf.

Still, this is American football. The NFL. Players get hurt every single week. ACL’s go, freak injuries happen. Anyone can get hurt, not just Robinson. Yes, Robinson is now under the microscope because he missed time. Still, to think he cannot get back to his old ways when he is healthy months before the season and is at age 24 is a bit of a stretch.

Robinson could disappoint. New offense, young quarterback, fresh ACL, sure it is there. It just seems like that is the prediction from someone who is not privy to the tape of Robinson or the nature in which ACL’s heal in this day and age.

The obvious disappointment candidate this year is Jordan Howard. Trey Burton is a more questionable sign with much less proven ability. Kyle Fuller just got paid huge money after being excluded from long term plans a season before. Heck, PFF thinks Adrian Amos is an All-Pro safety.

This post was not designed to attack any player the author wrote as the disappointment candidate. Still, this writer went for the easy, low hanging fruit, and it felt as though there was not enough research or time put into the piece. Hopefully if Bleacher Report continues to do national pieces, they can at least put in the time for every team.
