Three top ten picks have signed their rookie deals in the past 24 hours. Is this a good sign for Roquan Smith?

When it was announced that Roquan Smith would miss the first days of training camp due to a hold out, the general idea was not panic. The team arrived early, and most of the other first round picks were not signed yet. Still, it is fair to say that Smith missing anytime is not beneficial.

Now that the hold out has entered day four, it may be something to start to monitor. On top of that, two top ten picks have signed their rookie deals in the past 24 hours.

First, Saquan Barkely signed. Barkley is a huge domino because he is the number two overall pick. Most picks can fall in line from him.  On top of that, he is a running back. This means that if any player in the top ten were going to have an issue with longterm offset language, it would be his position. Running back is extremely devalued.

However, for him to get the guarantees put in that satisfied him in a timely manner has to be good news for Roquan Smith.

The signing of Barkley helped pave the way for Sony Michel, another running back to sign. Not long after the two first round backs signed another top ten pick joined Barkley.

49ers ninth overall pick Mike McGlinchey finally signed his deal less than 24 hours after Barkley.

The second top ten pick to sign in this period, McGlinchey leaves five top ten picks unsigned. The list currently sits at Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Denzel Ward, Josh Allen and Smith. It feels as though we are getting closer. Still, for the time being, we wait.
