Who has been making noise at linebacker during the first week of training camp?

Unlike some positions the Chicago Bears linebacker spot has been under a bright spotlight due to a few bigger name players. It has brought on opportunity for lesser names. The question is, who has taken advantage? Keep in mind, it is just the first week, and not to over react.

Roquan Smith

We all know the situation with Roquan Smith. Catch up on the latest here. With that in mind, there are reports that he is studying the defense with the idea in mind that his holdout will end soon. Time will tell.

Danny Trevathan

Across from Smith Trevathan has yet to take a snap in camp due to some hamstring issues. When you boil it down, his issue has the longest potential lingering affects so his situation is likely more worrisome.

Nick Kwiatkoski

The lack of snaps from the starters has opened up some opportunity for Nick Kwiatkoski. Kwiatkoski has taken most of the first team reps and has seized his chances, having a great camp so far.

Below you can see him blowing up Ryan Nall in pass protection.

Kwiatkoski also had the play of the day on Sunday, a tipped interception to himself.

He finished last season a starter and entered camp one as well. He is going to be tougher to knock off than some may think.

Joel Iyiegbuniwe

This should have been a great opportunity for the fourth round pick from Western Kentucky as well. Unfortunately, Iggy has been sidelined since Sunday with a shoulder injury. There has not been an update about how severe, but this is definitely hurting his chances.

John Timu

With the lack of names to step up, John Timu has been getting first team snaps with the team. His 53-man roster chances have improved this week.

The team also signed Ro’Derrick Hoskins, and have had Josh Woods see significant snaps at linebacker.
