2. Kevin Toliver

For those that aren’t quite familiar with the former LSU defensive back, Thursday’s preseason opener will give you a perfect opportunity to hop on the Kevin Toliver bandwagon before your peers do.

Toliver was a five-star recruit coming out of Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Florida. Coming out of LSU, he had first-round talent but un-draftable decision-making off the field. The Bears signed the young corner immediately following the draft, and so far in camp, he looks like he can find his way into a role in the Bears’ secondary.

In the Bears’ opening practice, Toliver recorded two interceptions and then followed that performance with a pick the very next practice as reported by Chicago Sun Times, Mark Potash.

Toliver had one year of collegiate eligibility left, and perhaps that year would have served him well as his production numbers don’t reflect a player who was seen as the best high school cornerback in the nation. Toliver only recorded 82 tackles and two interceptions in three seasons with the Tigers.

Despite his limited production, coach Matt Nagy likes what Toliver brings to the team, describing him as a “tall, rangy, lengthy corner who almost looks like a safety”. If Toliver can make a few impact plays during the preseason, we will see the young talent in some games when they actually count.
