Who are Chicago Bears to watch for on the defensive line in the Hall of Fame game?

The Hall of Fame game is a sign that football is back and that is a beautiful day for everyone. However, for the casual fan, the Hall of Fame can get very boring, very quickly. Nobody knows who the heck is playing as teams get vanilla and rest starters knowing that 4 preseason games await.

It is unlikely that Akiem Hicks, and Eddie Goldman are going to suit for this one. We know what we have, do not risk anything for these two. Heck, even John Jenkins will likely see the field in limited action if at all. He is a vested veteran of the group who essentially has the backup nose tackle job locked down.

Jonathan Bullard and Roy Robertson-Harris

This likely means that Bullard and Robertson-Harris are going to see the early snaps together. They likely will not play long either, but they definitely will get some time on the field together to start the camp battle off. This will be a good chance to get a look at both defensive lineman in higher leverage situations than camp so far.

Bilal Nichols

Jenkins may get a series at the nose, but it would be interesting to see if Nichols took any snaps next to Bullard and Robertson-Harris. Still, this is a game where a player such as Nichols can really gain momentum.

A small school player and a mid round pick, Nichols does not have buzz and has promise of turning out yet. However, with the lack of playing time of the names ahead of him, he should be able to log a plethora of snaps deep into this game.

This could be an extended look at the rookie that most times will not get the proper chance to do. Nichols is the type of player who could benefit from this game.

Abdullah Anderson

Abdullah Anderson is another name who could really benefit from this game. On the roster, he is listed as the third string nose tackle, behind Goldman and Jenkins. As mentioned, Nichols has versatility, and Nick Williams could play some nose tackle in a pinch. However, with the lack of a need to see Jenkins and Goldman, this could be a chance to really gain momentum. The most momentum he could gain is to the practice squad, but the track to earning that spot is by showing up when called upon in this game.

Cavon Walker and Nick Williams

As mentioned, Williams could also get some first half snaps thanks to the potential lack of bodies at nose. Still, he is a long standing veteran without much of a ceiling.

Cavon Walker on the other hand will be worth a follow in terms of where he aligns. Walker was a linebacker turned edge prospect. However, the Chicago Bears current depth chart has him as the third DE behind Bullard and Robertson-Harris. Is this what the team is hoping to get out of him? This type of project would warrant practice squad consideration.
