After two strong performances in 2018, Kasim Edebal heads into the third week of the preseason with a lot on the line with the Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears edged rusher position is a mess. You did not need me to tell you that. Leonard Floyd left the Bears third preseason game with a finger injury, and we were able to see the reality of life without Floyd. It gets gross, quick.

The fact of the matter is that Sam Acho is going to make the roster and start across from Leonard Floyd. Who else makes this team at edge rusher is a total mystery. However, of the four prime candidates, it is fair to say that Kasim Edebali is the stand out so far as the third edge rusher.

First, we have Aaron Lynch. Yes, he is still on the roster, but he has not been healthy. With health being a primary reason in which he has struggled to put up statistically, this is a huge red flag. If he does not get back to practice this week, he should be on the chopping block.

From there, Isaiah Irving. Irving looked like a monster in the Hall of Fame game, one of the best players on the field. Then, an injury held him out of their second game. Irving had a pedestrian performance in the third game. While him being on the field should have him over Aaron Lynch so far, he needs a big week or two as well.

Unfortunately for the Chicago Bears, their high upside pass rusher from the sixth round in Kylie Fitts has not shown much as well. He may hang on as a fifth outside linebacker who is inactive on game days, as the team begins to progress him to the NFL.

Then, we have Kasim Edebali. Edebali looked solid in his preseason debut, putting together a few moves to create pressure. I wrote that I would like to see the pressures turn into sacks as a sign of progression and Edebali recorded one in his second preseason game. He is the only player of the group to put together two notable performances in the preseason, never mind the fact he has put them together in a row.

As mentioned, there is the potential for five outside linebackers to stick around. With two locks, and four players fighting for two or three spots, it is hard to see Kasim Edebali being on the outside looking in when Chicago Bears finals cuts are announced.
