Matt Nagy admitted on Thursday that it is unlikely James Daniels will start Week One for the Chicago Bears

It feels as though we have finally figured out the Chicago Bears intentions on the offensive line. As Ryan Pace said when he drafted James Daniels, Daniels will play left guard. He started at left guard and played into the second half in the Chicago Bears preseason finale.

The team started Daniels at center for a couple of weeks in the middle of the offseason while Hroniss Grasu was injured. It appears as though the team is intent on keeping Grasu around despite his lack of versatility because he can provide depth at center, and the team does not want to rely on James Daniels and Eric Kush in that role moving forward.

Still, in the injury to Grasu, Daniels lost a lot of time developing at his natural position because the team is not very deep at center. That is why despite playing well in the fourth preseason game it was unlikely that the Chicago Bears would start James Daniels in Week One against the Packers.

Matt Nagy all but confirmed that notion after the game.

With injury concerns to Kyle Long and Earl Watford being released, Eric Kush may very easily have to slide to right guard. James Daniels may also progress over the next few weeks. Heck, Kush could also prove that he is just a depth player. This thing is going to work itself out.

The fact of the matter is that whichever of the three happens, Daniels is going to finish the season as the starting left guard. However, he is not going to start the season at left guard, and we do not necessarily know when that is going to happen either.

Let the guessing games begin.
