During the Khalil Mack press conference, Ryan Pace credited Matt Nagy for helping get the deal done with his saying of “persistence over resistance.”

When the Oakland Raiders traded Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears, everyone was interested in how it went down. When did the Bears call the Raiders? How long did negotiations last? When did it feel real to Ryan Pace that he was going to land a superstar pass rusher?

On the Hoge and Jahs podcast, you can hear the entirety of the Ryan Pace press conference that features Matt Nagy and Khalil Mack.

Pace was asked about the timeline and how he went about acquiring Mack. Pace mentioned that early into training camp he had heard rumors. To touch base, he gave the Raiders a call to test the waters.

He said that throughout camp, the two stayed in touch, although he was never quite sure what the Raiders temperature was. Pace said he and Nagy had a similar mindset when approaching this decision. He noted that Nagy had a saying that he would consistently refer to when discussing Mack, “persistence over resistance.”

Nagy was sure to remind Pace that laying back and waiting for the Raiders to call the Bears about Mack may not have been the way to get this thing done. So, the team continued to stay in touch, even without hearing back anything significant from the Raiders. Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy wanted to be in the back of the Oakland Raiders minds throughout the summer. They wanted the Raiders to remember that if they ever did decide to make a move, those two would be there.

Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace were persistent. They did not resist. They did not call once to gauge interest and move in. They jumped in head first. This is the type of decision making that should be expected from not only the front office but also throughout the coaching staff moving forward. They are not going to sit on their hands. They are going to go out and get it.
