Silence the doubters. What an absolute statement performance by Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.
After starting the season slow offensively, the Chicago Bears young quarterback has received a lot of criticism. Is he able to throw the ball accurately over ten yards? Can he throw to his left? Can he go through his progressions and make the correct throw if the first read isn’t there? The answer to all of these is simple: Yes.
Trubisky flashed immense potential Sunday afternoon. For the first time in a long time, fans saw a competent offense in Chicago. Everything was starting to gel as everyone was doing their job correctly.
We saw why weapons were brought in and their role in the offense. Tarik Cohen and Taylor Gabriel also had a huge game for the Bears. But what was the difference between this game and others so far this season. Well, it’s a mix of multiple things.
Play calling was much better
Bears head coach Matt Nagy called a great game offensively on Sunday. The whole offense looked far more comfortable compared to other games so far in the season, especially Trubisky, and that’s what matters most.
The play calling looked a little more conservative at times compared to earlier games, which is a good thing. If dialing back the offense brings success, do it. It’s going to be hard for any quarterback to master a whole new complex offensive system in one offseason. There are going to be growing pains. Sunday looked like the offense is finally turning the page and taking some pressure off the defense.
Trubisky went through his progressions
The offensive line played phenomenal, they kept Mitch clean and allowed to him make the correct reads and throws. This is an area Trubisky seemed to struggle with earlier in the year. It looked like a lot of his plays were set up to be throws to his first read, and if that wasn’t there he would struggle.
Sunday there were multiple plays for 20+ yard gains where the player he threw to was his third or fourth option. Phenomenal improvement, and if Mitch can continue to improve each week, the Chicago Bears are going to be a very dangerous team.
Welcome the new offensive weapons to Chicago
What a performance by all of the new weapons. Taylor Gabriel, Tarik Cohen and Trey Burton had HUGE games for the bears. Trubisky threw for six touchdowns to five different receivers. Talk about spreading the wealth. Along with these three, newly acquired receiver Allen Robinson also scored a touchdown, along with Josh Bellamy. The offense is going to continue to get everyone involved, and this is going to lead to huge plays throughout the season for the Bears.
The media will find ways to knock Sunday’s historic performance, but that’s just what they do. It will be brought up that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense isn’t the best, which is true. But did Ben Roelthisburger or Drew Brees throw for six touchdowns against them? Didn’t think so.

The Bears defense was again dominant, and should not be overlooked just because an amazing offensive performance. It feels like the page is turning in Chicago, and things are starting to click in all phases. The Bears have a bye week this week, which is good for them as they can let starters Prince Amukamara and Anthony Miller heal up from injuries. Chicago football returns October 14thagainst the Miami Dolphins.
The real test is the Bears matchup against the New England Patriots the next week. I believe we’ll see who this team really is during that matchup. Expect Mitchell Trubisky to wear his sleeve every game from now on, because that was obviously the key to his breakout game.
