Mitch Trubisky was sacked twice in the Chicago Bears loss to the Patriots. Who is to blame?
The Chicago Bears loss to the New England Patriots was frustrating. It felt like the team had opportunities but missed them. With that in mind, Mitch Trubisky was sack twice. As always, we will assign blame for those sacks based on the tape.
Both sacks go on Charles Leno this week. The first sack is linked here. Leon is taking on Deatrich Wise and loses one-on-one. You can see that Wise is able to get his arm extended on Leno. From there, he is able to drive Leno back into the quarterback.
Was it a bit close to illegal hands to the face? Maybe, but it looks like he has his hand on the shoulder and is able to drive back with pure strength. Leno has done a good job at extending his arms first to avoid these situations but got caught up against Wise.
The next one came against Adrian Clayborn. It is linked here. This is a weak attempt by Leno. Clayborn is not known as a speed linebacker off of the edge. He is technically sound and uses his hands to hold up.
However, in this attempt, he was able to get under Leno, get around the edge and get to the quarterback. Leno needs to be able to make this play.
This is especially disappointing because Leno has been the best per rush attempt lineman of the group so far this season. To see him be the let down of the group up against the Patriots is frustrating.
Here are the season to date stats
Mitch Trubisky- 4.5
Bobby Massie- 3
Charles Leno-3
Kyle Long– 2.5
Eric Kush– 1
