What if the Chicago Bears drafted Jamal Adams?

Who’s In, Who’s Out

If things played out this way, what significant changes would the team have?

IN
Jamal Adams, Sam Darnold, DeShone Kizer, Jake Butt, Shaquill Griffin, Frank Reich

OUT

Mitch Trubisky, Adam Shaheen, Eddie Jackson, James Daniels, Anthony Miller, Prince Amukamara, Allen Robinson, Khalil Mack, Matt Nagy

What does this all mean?

To be fair, it means nothing. Nobody knows exactly how things would have played out differently if the Bears selected Jamal Adams, but you can be certain that their quarterback situation would still be uncertain. Would Matt Nagy still come here if Trubisky wasn’t here? Possibly, but Nagy did love Trubisky coming out of college and pushed the Kansas City Chiefs to try to draft him and Nagy has stated publicly that Trubisky being in Chicago was one of the reasons he took the job.

Would Eddie Jackson, Allen Robinson and Khalil Mack all not be Bears? What about James Daniels and Anthony Miller? Again, it’s all educated guesses, but I would say that’s almost certianly the case for Jackson, Robinson and Mack. How would the Bears have drafted Eddie Jackson after spending the third overall pick on a safety and having two other viable ones on the roster? How could Allen Robinson pick the Bears (prior to the draft) without having a genuine clue who would be throwing him the football? How could Ryan Pace justify paying the price for Khalil Mack with still so many questions (including quarterback) on his roster?

The point of this exercise was just to show how one decision can affect so many others. Mitch Trubisky may not be the best QB to come out of his draft class, despite being the first one selected, but the fans making the Mahomes argument are picking and choosing. Several people wanted the Bears to take Adams (or even Solomon Thomas who hasn’t been good), the debate just isn’t about Trubisky or Mahomes (nobody had Mahomes going that early), but the debate should also be Trubisky vs Adams because Adams was far more a part of the conversation at the time than Patrick Mahomes ever was.
