Chase Daniel was sacked four times by the Detroit Lions on Thursday. Which Chicago Bears should take the blame for the sacks
No, it was not pretty. However, it was a win. With that said, Chase Daniel took a beating. It did not help that Matt Nagy dialed up a few runs and even a pass to Daniel. However, Daniel also took a beating in the pocket, taking four sacks. Trubisky was only sacked that many times in week four.
With that said, was it Daniel who was the difference in the added sacks? For the most part. yes.
Here is the first sack. This one goes on pretty much everybody. First, nobody is really open. Second, his tackles crash in on him. Third, James Daniels runs into him, Still, Daniel has a lot of time in the pocket. He has a lot of time in the pocket. To be fair, his tackles played well, and Daniel should have already been through his reads and likely took off, or threw the ball away.
His tackles should not take the blame. Daniels is looking for work. As we showed in his week two review, looking for work is something the coaches harped on with Daniels after his week one performance. To see Daniels want to help his tackle and run to the only lineman he could have helped is tough to be frowned on.
So, Daniel takes the blame. The only reason Leno got beat is because he waited too long without moving in the pocket. Leno losing slightly draws Daniels over. Considering Daniels was taught to do this, and Daniel ran into him this could be lack of awareness.

While it is a tough spot for Daniel, this sack goes on Daniel.
Here is the second sack. Some blame has to go to Charles Leno here. He lost one-on-one to Chase Daniel. However, some has to go to Daniel as well. Once again he puts himself in a tough spot in the pocket. He is slow to get through his reads and is hesitant to make a decision with the ball in his hands. Leno was able to push his man to the outside, but shares a sack with Daniel.
Here is the third sack. This sack probably has to go on Daniel or Matt Nagy. They called a screen, Daniel did not think it was there, and he dove forward for a sack. Was it a terrible call? Eh. You could even argue it was conservative of Daniel to hold the ball. With that in mind, sack three goes on Daniel.
The fourth sack has to go on Daniel as well. The play is linked here. This is a similar sack to one we credited Trubisky with earlier. The Lions show blitz left and blitz left. Chase Daniel did not notice the blitz and did not slide his protection. It set his linemen up in a three on two situation. If we blamed Trubisky for recognition earlier into the year, we have to knock Daniel.
