The Chicago Bears have a chance of bringing home three national awards by the end of the 2018 season

The Chicago Bears are having a special season, sitting at 8-3. As the season approaches the end, awards talk is going to get heated up. After years of joking that Jay Cutler was “our MVP,” the Chicago Bears may actually have some players up for awards.

Who are three Chicago Bears who should win an award this season?

1. Khalil Mack Defensive Player of the Year

I know that Aaron Donald is having an unbelievable season. Khalil Mack also missed two games. While it would be tough to knock Donald off, Mack will certainly have his name right next to Donald in Defensive Player of the Year voting

So far this season Donald has a ridiculous 14.5 sacks. He has 16 tackles for loss and 28 quarterback hits. He has also forced three fumbles.

Mack only has nine quarterback hits to go with eight tackles for loss and eight sacks. Mack does make up some ground with five forced fumbles and a pick-six in the opening game of the season. However, the stats are in favor of Donald, especially without a full season from Mack.

Where Mack can get Donald is team defense. Yes, this means the other ten players around Mack are better than Donald. However, the Rams defense is bad. Really bad. The Chicago Bears are going to wind up with the best defense in the NFL. The Bears give up 4.9 yards per play; the Rams give up 6.2.

The Rams have players such as Ndamukong Suh, and Michael Brockers, two former first-round picks on the line next to him. So while Mack has a better group, you can also argue that the attention Mack causes opens his group up for more success. Donald has players next to him who should benefit but are not.

Nonetheless, Mack will need a strong finish to win the award but is a lock to find himself as a nominee.
