Keys To Victory: Chicago Bears Seek Redemption

2. Run the Ball
Time and time again throughout this season, Matt Nagy has stated that he will get the Bears’ running game going. Against the Rams in week 14, Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen put together what was arguably their best performances of the season.
Howard rushed for 101 yards on 19 carries, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. Tarik Cohen, on the other hand, rushed for 69 yards on nine carries, averaging 7.7 yards per carry.
Last time these two teams met, the Bears rushed for 139 yards but managed to score no touchdowns. This Sunday, the formula for the Bears should be the same: pound the ball in order to wear down what will be an injured Packers defense and capitalize by scoring touchdowns.
The versatility in the Bears backfield allows for runs up the middle or runs to the outside. The Bears did just that in week one: Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen ran both inside and outside for big gains.
It’s best that the Bears run Jordan Howard directly at the Packers’ defense, as he’s shown to be most effective when running up the middle. A major reason for this is that Howard does not have major speed when he runs towards the outside. While he has been effective at running towards the outside on some plays, linebackers, and defensive backs will sometimes shut him down.
Considering the players in the Bears offense have continued to show growth as the season has progressed, we could see Tarik Cohen used differently, however, Jordan Howard still needs to receive multiple carries.
