Five Chicago Bears were elected to the Pro Bowl, and seven more were named alternates.

The Chicago Bears haven’t had many players in the Pro Bowl over the last few years. It was hard to make a case for many to make it either. Underwhelming rosters and poor win-loss records never bode well accolades.

This year though, with the Bears currently sitting at 10-4 and champions of the NFC North, things have changed.

Bears’ fans have been in a frenzy and partly due to their boost in fan voting (fan voting makes up one-third of the ballot), five Bears’ have been named to the Pro Bowl this year.

The Chicago Bears’ defense got plenty of love with four representatives being named to the Pro Bowl. Khalil Mack, Eddie Jackson, Akiem Hicks and Kyle Fuller will all be headed to Orlando this season.

Along with them, Tarik Cohen was named as the special teams’ returner.

The Bears may not be done there, they also had seven alternates named as well:

Alternates are all basically wait-listed to see if they’ll be headed to Orlando with their teammates. Plenty of players pull out of the Pro Bowl due to injuries, and any Pro Bowlers that reach the Super Bowl are also ineligible, so there is an excellent chance that a couple of these alternates will join their teammates in Florida.

The love and respect this team is getting this year for Pro Bowl nods shows how much this team is respected around the league. Think about this for a minute:

Seven of the Chicago Bears starters on defense are either in the Pro Bowl or an alternate for the Pro Bowl. Of the remaining starters- Eddie Goldman has been in the Pro Bowl conversation all year, Adrian Amos won the fan voting at strong safety, and Bryce Callahan has been arguably the best slot nickel corner in the NFL. All that leaves is Prince Amukamara who has also been solid all season, who knows, if he hadn’t been banged up early, maybe he would have earned an alternate nod as well.

Pro Bowl nods are great, but there is a different Bowl that this team is focused on right now, and if they get there, it would be Super.
