Anthony Lynn

The Los Angeles Chargers just went into the Kansas City Chiefs house and stole a win, making the last couple of weeks of the season interesting in the AFC. While the Chiefs were changing quarterbacks, the Chargers were still considered a tick behind the Chiefs coming into the season as well.

So, with the same record, a 1-1 head to head record and by exceeding expectations more, it is certain that Anthony Lynn is going to get some run as coach of the year as well. Especially if the Chargers can finish chasing down the Chiefs for the one seed.

After starting his career 0-4 as a head coach Lynn has gone 20-6, 17-4 in his last 21 and that, of course, includes his 11-3 record this season. However, he is getting done, Lynn is winning football games.

Lynn is going to get his respect, but once again may be dragged down a bit by his quarterback. Phillip Rivers is sitting right next to Mahomes in the MVP debate. The team also has a bevy of running backs and wide receivers to go to. Defensive coordinator Gus Bradley gets some credit for the defensive scheme, and Derwin James is a rookie of the year candidate.

The last case going against him would be their expectations. Coming off of his fantastic finish the team had some calling them the sleeper of 2018, an organization that could win 10 or more games. Their season win total set at nine before the season. While they overshot expectations, and Lynn is an excellent contestant, the Chicago Bears season win total was 6. The Bears making the playoffs was still less likely and gives Nagy an edge.
