The NFL regular season has officially come to a close, and it was a banner year for our beloved Monsters:

Throughout the season, our Chicago Bears have made us proud on and off the field. And with the end of 2018 now upon us, it’s time to give out this year’s team awards.

  • Clinched the division against that team who loves cheese
  • Swept both of those other NFC North foes
  • Secured a spot in the playoffs as the No. 3 seed

Most Poised – Akiem Hicks, DE

Yes, it’s a little strange to refer a 332-pound man as poised. But have you seen him in interviews?

Hicks is one of the most well-spoken players in the league. He doesn’t mumble. He doesn’t slur his words. He doesn’t use inappropriate slang or jargon.

Hicks has a respectful approach and commanding presence when addressing the media.

Mr. Dependable – Khalil Mack, LB

Let’s face it, Mack has been an absolute force this season. His teammates, and the fans, have come to rely on him to terrorize opposing quarterbacks each week.

He hasn’t let them down.

In 14 games, Mack has racked up 12.5 sacks (including a behind-the-back sack on Aaron Rodgers). And it’s likely we’ll see that number increase during the postseason.

The Unsung Hero – Danny Trevathan, LB

Eddie Jackson. Kyle Fuller. Akiem Hicks. Khalil Mack. Those are some of the names you often hear when people talk about Chicago’s defense.

Trevathan deserves just as much praise but doesn’t get enough of it. He didn’t receive many cheers when his name was called to run out of the tunnel at the game against Green Bay (I was there!).

What gives, Bears fans? Trevathan has accumulated a whopping 76 tackles so far this season. He’s a key member of this stout defense.

Best Hair – Pat O’Donnell, P

Can we all take a moment to appreciate this man’s hair? I know it seems silly, but sometimes it’s OK to acknowledge these things.

O’Donnell’s hair is never out of place. Never. His hair has an Uncle-Jesse-from-Full-House thing going on.

I can’t be the only one who sees it.

Best Dressed – Mitchell Trubisky, QB

It was at this moment that I dubbed our QB1 the best dressed player on the team.

This awesome light-up sweater isn’t the only reason, though. From the custom-made pink jacket for Breast Cancer Awareness month to his sleek suits, Trubisky dresses so sharp he could appear on the cover of GQ Magazine.

The Heart of Gold – Trey Burton, TE

The former Philadelphia Eagle has already made a name for himself on the field as one of Trubisky’s favorite targets. He had a team-high five receptions in Sunday’s win in Minnesota and finished the (regular) season with 54 receptions.

Burton is also a star off the field. He pledged a $1,000 for every catch he makes and $2,500 for every touchdown he scores to the International Justice Mission (IJM), a human rights organization whose goal is to end slavery and human trafficking.

In previous years, he’s even visited the IJM field office in the Dominican Republic to find out how to get more involved. As a father of three, the cause is something that is dear to his heart.

It should come as no surprise that Burton is Chicago’s Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee.
