It doesn’t look good for Cody Parkey’s future in Chicago.

Cody Parkey let down the fans of the Chicago Bears.

Cody Parkey let down his teammates.

Cody Parkey let down everyone.

After Parkey’s “double doink” failed to push the Bears to the NFC Divisional round, the smart move would have been for the embattled kicker to stay quiet and just quietly fade into the offseason.

The odds that Parkey would be back weren’t high, but his teammates had his back after the game, and with a few million guaranteed his way in 2019, there was definitely a chance he would return.

Then Parkey decided to go on the Today Show last Friday and pat himself on the back for how he’s handled his miss. It was a bizarre segment and most fans sat there and disbelief as he continued to tell the Today Show studio crew how he will keep his head up.

Rumors started to leak out that the Bears’ weren’t pleased with his decision to do that and after today’s press conference with Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy, it’s clear that they aren’t happy with Parkey and that he’s most likely gone.

While Pace admitted at a minimum that Parkey will be competing for a job next year, after hearing Matt Nagy, it seems that while there will be a competition, Parkey may not be a part of it.

Nagy has stressed the importance of team all season. The Bears win as a team and lose as a team. Nagy stressed that Parkey’s appearance wasn’t a “we” thing, it was a “me” thing. Nagy, as this tweet says, called Parkey selfish.

A selfish kicker isn’t what the Bears are looking for, especially one that greatly under-performed.

It doesn’t take much to read between the lines. The Bears will be looking for a new kicker in 2019 and Cody Parkey will be looking for a new team.
