One area that can improve the Chicago Bears offense is playing both running backs together
One hot debate that has broke out for Chicago Bears fans this offseason is Jordan Howard or Kareem Hunt. However, whichever they choose one thing is clear. They should get Tarik Cohen on the field at the same time as that back.
The Chicago Bears do not use a fullback. Last season they had two running backs on the field together 16% of the time. That was the third most in the NFL.
What is interesting to note is that they had a 50% success rate throwing with two of their backs on the field. It is one of their best marks. This tends to make sense as Tarik Cohen is dynamic, but had 99 rushes and 91 targets in the passing game.

A lot of his work can be done in the air, and he averages 7.1 yards per target but just 4.5 yards per carry.
So, to make Cohen better in the passing game, adding a running back next to him that will pound it between the tackles helps keep the defense honest.
The defense is thinking that with two running backs on the field, they are likely to run the ball, which may cause them to add extra defensive lineman or linebackers. This could give Cohen an even bigger speed edge in the passing game.
What is worth noting is that the team who ranks second in two running back usage is the New England Patriots. They use this formation with Sony Michel and James White or Rex Burkhead about 34% of the time. They pass out of that formation 41% of the time and have a 59% success rate.
Tarik Cohen is a valued and asset and whatever they do with Jordan Howard or Kareem Hunt, that will not change. In fact, an upgrade at running back beside Cohen could mean better usage for Cohen.
