Bryce Callahan had a tremendous season last year. Callahan’s steady improvement over his four years in Chicago has been tremendous as he’s gone from an undrafted free agent to arguably the best slot corner in the NFL.

Callahan’s issue continues to be health. After breaking his foot and rumors of some other lingering health issues, Callahan’s market is an interesting one. Teams would be jumping on the chance to sign Callahan based on his skills, but his continued health trouble will turn off several teams.

It will be interesting to see how the Bears play this. Do they try to sign Callahan prior to free agency to make sure he’s locked down? Or do they roll the dice and let him test free agency, thinking that his health will suppress his market and get him at a lower rate?

My guess is that the Bears go the let him play free agency route, but unlike Cameron Meredith, I have a hunch that if Callahan does get a solid offer, even though he’s a UFA, the Bears will get an opportunity to beat it and they will do just that and keep him in Chicago.
