Chicago Bears: 5 offseason needs
Slot Cornerback
Bryce Callahan may test the market. There has been little talk of an extension this offseason, and there are a variety of factors that will make his free agency interesting, starting with a season-ending injury. Even if Callahan does test the market, the Chicago Bears should not feel confident in the slot position now or moving forward. Remember, Callahan had a chance to be extended last season, tested the market and came back on a cheap one-year deal.
The Bears had another chance to extend him this past offseason and did not. Callahan may be betting on a payday, but the Bears may not be offering much either. They may not be sure of his long term ability, and a season that ends with him injured does not alleviate that, despite a strong season.
Still, last year they relied on Sherrick McManis who is a core special teamer when Callahan went down. They need another option behind Callahan if not an upgrade and a replacement.
