This is the risky addition that comes with a draft pick in the slot as well. Verrett could be regarded as the top slot cornerback on the market. However, he has played in five games since 2016.
That is a lot of time rehabbing rather than working on your craft. It is tough to say where he is as a football player at this point. While this comes with the obvious drawbacks, the team does have some potential options in the slot.
If the Bears were to sign Verrett, depth options such as DeShawn Shead and Coty Sensabaugh could join him as healthier options if Verrett were not to pay off. However, if Verett were to come in and pay off, the upgrade that the team would see would be phenomenal.
They do not have much cap space, and may be able to use their space on other spots or another depth slot cornerback to match the high reward to go with some low risk in signing Jason Verrett.
