Chicago Bears: Five Free Agent Running Back Options

3. Mark Ingram

The first names are good options to eat into losing not only Howard but mainly Benny Cunningham. In Mark Ingram, you are swinging for an upgrade over Jordan Howard. Ingram fits the Howard mold and the two run at a similar style.

The issue here is that Ingram is older and is going to make more in 2019. The offset is that Ingram has been a top-notch pass blocker for his entire career, and has consistently produced more in the passing game than Howard.

The Chicago Bears were rather successful when implementing Howard and Tarik Cohen on the field at the same time. Having the pass-catching abilities of Ingram to match Cohen would make that formation even more dangerous.

Lastly, the Bears would take away from a contender for their own gain. They could spend a bit on Ingram for a one-year deal and go all-in with the idea that if it does not work out, there are no long-term ramifications.
