The Chicago Bears are pressed up against the salary cap but do have an interest in bringing both prized free agents back

The biggest question surrounding the Chicago Bears this offseason is whether or not Bryce Callahan and Adrian Amos will be back. Both played strong and deserve a raise, the question is how much, and will the Bears pay it?

One thing is for sure, the team is working hard to bring back both under reasonable salaries. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune noted that while they prefer Callahan, they want to bring back Amos as well.

This makes sense considering the Bears have a bigger need at cornerback in the slot than they do at safety. Callahan also may come cheaper as he is undersized, a bit older and coming off of season-ending injury.

The price for slot cornerbacks has gone up, but Callahan should be able to fit into the Bears cap.

The Chicago Bears currently have somewhere between 10-13 million in cap space. If they get Callahan at about $7 million per year, can they handle an Amos deal?

It would take some cap maneuvering. The Bears could save a bit more when the Cody Parkey signing is announced. There are one or two more cap casualties who could pave the way for Amos as well.

However, the biggest question with Amos will come down to his market. Last year safety was watered down and a few good free agents came cheap. This year Amos has competition with names such as Earl Thomas and Landon Collins.

On the plus side, those names will get the attention of other teams. On the other, once they sign Amos is going to want a similar deal, and the teams that missed out on Collins will flock straight to Amos.

As the days go by it is sounding like Callahan may stay and it will be hard to bring back Amos. We will see as more news comes in.
