Multiple teams have discussed trading for Jordan Howard at the NFL combine

If you have followed the Chicago Bears in the past calendar year you would know that the relationship between the team and Jordan Howard has been volatile.

From Jordan Howard deleting Bears posts off his Instagram to rumors of a Jarvis Landry for Howard trade, the smoke has always been around that Howard was not a fit for the Matt Nagy offense.

After his worst statistical season, the rumors only grew that Howard was not long for Chicago. The smoke continues to turn into flames as Adam Schefter reported that multiple teams have approached Chicago about trading their fourth year running back.

Notice how it says “discussions ongoing.” The Chicago Bears were not approached and said no thank you. They were approached and said that due to the interest they will weigh their offers.

This is no surprise if you have been following along. Even if Jordan Howard returns this year he is due a contract next year and it would be surprising if the Bears gave him any serious money. Especially after meeting with a handful of running backs at the combine.

Now we know for sure that they have talked about. moving on from Howard. Considering a bidding war has already started it would be surprising to see Howard stay on the Bears through the draft.

The Bears have a price and they do not value Howard has much as some teams. If a few teams get into a war and one goes over the top to get it done, the Bears will pull the trigger.

Keep in mind, this will only be a mid-round pick. A third rounder could probably do it for Chicago. He is still coming off of a down year and is due to a contract. He still brings little to the passing game. But, for a team that is strapped for cash and draft equity, avoiding to pay Howard in the future and being able to replace him with a cheaper pick you traded him for is a wise decision. Look for Howard to be moved in the next month.
