Chicago Bears: 15 best free agent acquisitions of all-time

One of the more interesting players to ever play for the Bears was tight end Martellus Bennett. Known as ‘Marty B’, Bennett came to the Bears in 2013 after spending four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and one with the New York Giants.
Taken in the second round out of Texas A&M, Bennett never was able to push veteran Jason Witten for time, and that became an issue for Bennett. He was unhappy with Dallas and even had a few choice words for the team after his rookie contract was up. That may have led to him going to the Giants, where he was a terrible fit.
In one season with the G-Men, “Marty B” had 626 yards and five scores. The numbers were fine, but the team seemed frustrated with him and were even annoyed with his early season conditioning.
Still, he showed enough to get a four-year deal from the Bears to be their featured tight end. On the field, he didn’t disappoint. He had a great first season with the team, but really broke out in his second year, as he had 90 receptions for 916 yards and six touchdowns. Off the field was a different story.
Bennett was suspended for a fight with Kyle Fuller in 2014 and his relationship with the team (especially his teammates) fell apart in 2015. He questioned others work ethic and was traded to the New England Patriots before the final season of his contract.
While it ended poorly, the signing was good, as Bennett accounted for 208 receptions for 2,114 yards, and 14 touchdowns in three seasons with the Bears.
