In adding HaHa Clinton-Dix to Eddie Jackson the Chicago Bears have a chance to be versatile in their back end
The signing of HaHa Clinton-Dix is a smart one from a financial perspective for the Chicago Bears. He is coming in much cheaper than Adrian Amos, albeit just on a one-year deal.
Still, Clinton-Dix is more in a prove-it mode after a rocky few months that featured a new coach in Green Bay followed by a new team in Washington.
What is nice about the fit for Clinton-Dix to Chicago is that he knows Eddie Jackson.
The two did not get to play together, but obviously, have a bond that goes back to 2012 and possibly beyond.
With familiarity comes the chance for Clinton-Dix to excel in a role he has never quite been in. For the most part, Clinton-Dix played the deep safety role. At times, he was able to split the back end as a two-deep look.
Take a look at this thread to see all of what HaHa Clinton-Dix.
Amos is better in man coverage. He is a more sound tackler and less apt to give up big plays. However, Clinton-Dix has more range and ball skills. Being able to shift and rotate Clinton-Dix and Jackson will give the defense a much more aggressive form of attack.
The two can shift not only pre-snap, but post snap. The range that each safety has enables them to line up in the box with the option to bail and drop into a single high or even two-deep role.
Chuck Pagano talked about how he prefers an aggressive mentality in his form of attack and the addition of Clinton-Dix confirms that. We will see he meshes with Jackson on the football field.
