Darwin Thompson

Darwin Thompson can join Devine Ozigbo as two of the biggest combine snubs at running back. Thompson has been slept on his entire career, going under recruited and transferring to Utah State for one season of eligibility. Thompson put up 16 touchdowns last season, posting elite scores in several rankings according to Pro Football Focus.

Thompson did not get a combine invite but put on a show at the Pro Day, wowing scouts in the process. It is fair to say that Darwin Thompson has the ability to be the Phil Lindsey of this draft. Lindsey produced, and put up insane athletic scores but was still disregarded due to his speed.

He showed last season that the skill can translate despite the size. Still, while Thompson comes in the following year as a similar mold, teams continue to sleep.

If Thompson is a UDFA, the Chicago Bears need to get on the phone. They should spend one of their seventh round picks on a game breaker who has shown power between the tackles, despite limited size.

A small school player with elite athleticism and upside is right in Ryan Pace’s wheelhouse. We will see if he pulls the trigger on Thompson late.
