Not many people tied the Chicago Bears to wide receiver, but the team added Riley Ridley in the fourth round
Despite revamping the wide receiver corps last season the Chicago Bears were not done. To the surprise of some, the team added wide receiver Riley Ridley from Georgia. Ridley is a player that we noted the Bears had interest in, as we warned that pass catcher could come higher than some think.
Ridley is an interesting prospect who was not highly productive at Georgia and was not overly athletic at the combine. However, as the brother of Calvin Ridley he gets praised for similar qualities, which starts in his route running.
Riley Ridley being bigger and a strong route runner gives him NFL intrigue.
The question now is where does he stack in with his teammates. Last season was the most Ridley had played because UDFA Javon Wims was ahead of him in the pecking order. Is Wims still ahead of the Bears fourth-round pick?
To start, Allen Robinson, Anthony Miller, and Taylor Gabriel are not going anywhere. Even Cordarelle Patterson will see the field, although he can play running back too. Riley Ridley is not going to be looked upon for instant impact.
Of course, he does have upside, and if he can get a bit stronger or faster with NFL trainers, he can become an NFL starter at some point.
The biggest question will Wims. Who is the better wide receiver? We will find out soon enough.
