3. Pineiro has a 75% touchback rate on kickoffs at Florida

Pineiro consistently got the ball into the end zone at Florida when he was kicking off. They say in the thick, humid air of Florida that balls don’t travel as well, but don’t tell Eddy Pineiro because he certainly didn’t have a problem.

Pineiro attempted 116 kickoffs during his two-year career at Florida and 87 of them were touchbacks. That is a 75% touchback rate.

Keep in mind, when the NFL wanted to encourage less kick returns, they moved the kickoff spot to the 35-yard line, the same as in college. So what would Pineiro’s 75% touchback rate rank at the NFL level?

In 2018, Pineiro’s touchback rate would have ranked him fourth among all NFL teams. In 2017 it would have ranked him third. If you combine the touchback rates for 2017 and 2018 and look at the best kickers over that two-year stretch, only Carolina would be ranked ahead of Pineiro.
