Chicago Bears: Players Primed for Big 2019 Season
James Daniels & Cody Whitehair
The changes along the offensive line aren’t etched in stone yet, but both James Daniels and Cody Whitehair could be in position to elevate their games in 2019. During their organized team activities (OTAs), Nagy told the media that Daniels was getting some reps at center, while Whitehair was being looked at playing left guard.
When Whitehair was drafted in 2016, he was slated to play guard. However, an injury to Hroniss Grasu and the acquisition of Josh Sitton forced the Bears to put Whitehair at center. Despite a few difficulties with shotgun snaps, the Kansas State product did a solid job as the team’s starting center, and did manage to make the Pro Bowl in 2018.
As for Daniels, he was the team’s starter at left guard for the last 11 games of the season (including the playoffs). The second-year pro did help anchor the offensive line at the University of Iowa during his final two years at center.
With both Daniels and Whitehair in line to potentially play their natural positions on the offensive line, Chicago’s front five could be stronger than we’ve seen in a while. Furthermore, this could possibly be a great start for the two to cement their names as two of the best offensive linemen in the NFL.
