Despite holding out at the start of his rookie campaign, Roquan Smith ended up being one of the most consistent players on the Bears’ defense in 2018. The eighth-overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft didn’t participate with the Bears in last year’s training camp, and didn’t play a snap during the preseason. Smith eventually cracked the starting lineup in Week 2 of the regular season, and never looked back.

The Georgia product finished his rookie year leading the Bears with 121 tackles, which was also tied for the 13th-most in the NFL. With the opportunity to actually participate in OTAs, training camp, and the preseason this year, Smith just might be the one calling the plays for the defense. Don’t be surprised to see No. 58 being named to his first Pro Bowl at the end of the season.
