With a long wait until training camp how has the stock of Tyler Bray changed since 2017?

After having to use a backup quarterback in two games last season, the Chicago Bears got a real taste of what it would look like when Mitch Trubisky went down. While Chase Daniel is not bad, the drop off was real, and it should have fans invested in the status of their backup quarterbacks.

That brings us to Tyler Bray. Bray completes the group as the third quarterback. He was let go last season and brought back after the injury to Trubisky. With a year of learning with Daniel and Trubisky, finishing the year with the team and being brought back where is the stock on Bray right now?

To start, it has to be noted that the Bears did absolutely nothing in the quarterback room. Coaches, players, everything is the same. That means that Bray has no competition behind him. If Mitch Trubisky gets hurt, he is automatically a backup quarterback. That has to be considered good for his stock.

However, throughout OTAs, the word around Bray has been quiet. This can also be looked at as a good thing-almost anything you hear at this stage of the offseason is going to be for something that is probably not good.

However, at the same time, it would have been nice to hear Bray show up motivated, or that Bray is looking to compete with Chase Daniel. Rather, it seems the group is satisfied in their roles. It would be tough to conceive a summer where reports come out of Bray competing for a backup job.

With that in mind, the Bears could let Bray go again. It is clear that Matt Nagy likes his mind more than his arm, and that mind can be valuable in the room, but so can an extra lineman or special teams player. Of course, considering he has been a third-string player in the same system for pretty much his entire career, other teams are not going to be calling for his services. Bray can sit on standby and could eventually watch his career turn into a job on the coaching staff. However, in terms of Bray upping his level of play, and pushing to take his status higher, it seems that ship has sailed.
