What is the stock for the fourth-year defensive lineman for the Chicago Bears?
Jonathan Bullard has officially lost the faith of any former supporters. Trust me, you are looking at one. Bullard has always had the physical talent. He has also shown that in flashes, he can take over games.
However, he also shown that he is far too inconsistent, he makes too many mistakes and he will never put it together despite any sort of flashes or spurts.
Bullard entered training camp in a battle with Roy Robertson-Harris. He not only lost that battle, he slowly began to fade behind rookie Bilal Nichols as well.
Entering 2019, Nichols is set to excel into the starting lineup with Robertson-Harris head and shoulders ahead of Bullard. Last year was the first time where Bullard was held sackless in a season. To be fair, his career high was one.
Still, this leaves Bullard as the clear number five defensive lineman in the mix. He has plateaued since his rookie season and is in line for as little snaps as he may see in his career.
The fair expectation for Bullard is to see minimal snaps, and then move on and try again with a fresh change of scenery. It just does not seem like it is going to click for him, at least not in Chicago.
The fact of the matter is that considering his talent level and upside, he was probably worth where the Bears took him. For whatever reasons they may be, he just never could put it together. Fortunately for Chicago they took Nichols at a later pick and will get exactly what they had planned to get from Bullard.
