63. Sam Mustipher, OL
Sam Mustipher is a player who could sneak his way onto the 53-man roster, but at the very least is entering training camp with an inside shot at a practice squad spot. Mustipher is a rookie UDFA from Notre Dame.
Yes, the Notre Dame connection should catch your eye. Mustipher excelled on the Notre Dame offensive line with Harry Hiestand. Of course, when Hiestand moved onto the Bears, and Quenton Nelson and Mike McGlinchey moved to the NFL, which caused the line to take a step back.
Still Mustipher was a leader in the clubhouse as a captain and one of the emotional leaders of the team. It is clear that Hiestand appreciated his ability and wanted to bring him to the Bears locker room as well.
Mustipher will fight for a roster spot as the backup center. With James Daniels set to start at center, Ted Larsen is technically the backup. Larsen is an experienced veteran who is going to hold down his own.
However, his upside is limited. Mustipher may take a year to get acclimated to the practice squad, but the plan may be for him to take over as the backup center next season.
