Where does the stock of Aaron Lynch stand entering his second season with the Chicago Bears?

There are two ways to dissect the offseason of Aaron Lynch. One. can be negative and one can be positive. To start with the bad this is a player that the Chicago Bears let test the waters.

Sure, Aaron Lynch is not a priority signing. However, the Bears are thin at depth, and after a solid year, it was a bit surprising to see them wait until April to get a deal done. It could be argued that the Bears wanted time to look into the draft prospects at the spot before committing to Lynch.

That does not show much confidence in Lynch. On top of that, nobody else was offering Lynch a contract, the biggest team standing out being the Denver Broncos.

Remember, Vic Fangio was the defensive coordinator who drafted Lynch in San Fransisco. When Fangio left for Chicago, Lynch struggled. Fangio brought Lynch to Chicago and he had his aforementioned bounceback.

The Broncos have Von Miller and Bradley Chubb, but let go of Shane Ray and Shaq Barrett. They need depth at outside linebacker. Fangio brought in Callahan, showing that he has some say as a first-time head coach. Why no Lynch?

On a positive note, it is tough to see Lynch losing his role as a third edge rusher this year. Remember, Khalil Mack missed time last year, and Floyd has had a variety of injuries, including playing through a broken hand last season.

Lynch may not have been wanted, but he has the chance to be an actual impact player, and once again increase his value. It actually will do him better on the market next year if he proves he can stay quality without Fangio.

So, from an overall value perspective, Lynch did not find a way to increase his league status. However, entering 2019 he has as good, if not a better chance this year to change that narrative. This is the definition of an even stock player.
