How has the stock of Chicago Bears wide receiver Javon Wims changed this offseason?

Javon Wims comes into 2019 in one of the more fascinating situations. A former seventh-round pick, Javon Wims always knew he was going to have to compete for a roster spot until he finally proved something.

Wims beat out Kevin White on the depth chart by the end of the season, but that is not necessarily saying something. Even factoring in progression, the Bears were not satisfied at the wide receiver position.

First, they added Cordarelle Patterson, but he is not a direct comparison to Javon Wims in role. Marvin Hall was signed as well, and while he is not a comparison to Wims in physical size, they both are presented as outside, deep splash players.

On top of Hall, the team drafted Riley Ridley and signed Emanuel Hall as a UDFA. Wims could catch a break with Emanuel Hall currently down with hernia surgery.

However, he still has Marvin Hall and Ridley added as competition. Ridley is what makes the Wims situation so interesting.

Wims outproduced Ridley when they shared a field at Georgia. However, the Bears drafted Ridley higher, and have been more keen on him through the media.

While it will always been the best man for the job, it feels as though Wims has more to prove than Ridley heading into camp.

Competition can bring out the best in players, and if Wims beats out Ridley for snaps again, he is a huge winner of the offseason. However, the Bears actions this offseason did not display any faith in Wims, and the oversaturation at the position this offseason presents a serious challenge for Wims.
