The Chicago Bears starting tight end is expected to have no setback to start his 2019 season
The end of Trey Burtons 2018 season did not go as planned. Burton struggled down the stretch as he started to wear down. From that, he missed the Chicago Bears playoff game against the Eagles.
Many were unsure what caused Burton to miss such a big game, but Matt Nagy revealed during OTAs that Burton had offseason surgery for a hernia that occurred at the end of the year. He tried to play through it, but he had no chance.
When Nagy revealed the surgery he was a bit unclear as to his time table to return. It could have been speculated that he would start on the Physically Unable to Perform list and would go from there.
However, Nagy had good news for the media when he announced the status of Burton pre-camp.

This is huge news. Whatever you think about Burton his role is important. He can move into the slot, and in-line. Burton can motion into the backfield as well. He is a matchup identifier who reveals the coverage by where he motions.
He can block, he can run, he can make life easier for Mitch Trubisky. When he goes out Adam Shaheen cannot replace him. In fact, the team added UDFA Dax Raymond in case Burton was hurt.
However, Burton appears to be healthy which is a major positive sign heading into training camp.
