Where does the stock stand on the Chicago Bears kickers heading into training camp?

If you had to pick a kicker to make the roster based on everything you know right this very second, who would you choose? The majority would likely have to go with Eddy Pineiro.  Pineiro has a couple of things going for him.

To start, he spent a full season in the NFL, albeit recovering from injury. On top of that, the Chicago Bears went out and traded him. The pick is late and conditional. Still, the Bears had options on their roster and went out and signed Pineiro. Pineiro fits the mold of a young player who grows with this corps, which is what Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace talk about buying into.

At the same time, if you had to choose between Eddy Pineiro or a the field-which means kickers, not on the current roster-who would you choose? Would you lean towards a kicker outside of the roster making the team over Pineiro? Most probably would.

Pineiro may have a lead, but Elliott Fry has not given any reason to make the roster, either. Reports out of camp are that Fry was not necessarily a winner of the competition but rather lost the least.

His performance is why the Bears added Pineiro. However, Pineiro is why Fry is still around. This leaves the position battle wide open and leaves the Bears skewering practice reports from other teams.

It is tough at this juncture to think that Pineiro is an offseason winner.
