This week, the Chicago Bears started their training camp at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL, and things are looking good so far. As we all know, the biggest story entering camp was the Bears’ kicking situation. At one point, Chicago had numerous kickers trying out at Halas Hall, only to shrink their number of kickers down to two: Elliott Fry and Eddie Pineiro.

During Saturday’s practice, it was Fry who was the star of the day. The University of South Carolina product wowed the Bears fans who were in attendance by connecting on nine out of 10 field goals. Fry missed the first field goal attempt, which was a 33-yarder, only to follow it up by making nine straight kicks.

To make things even more interesting, one of those kicks was made from 60 yards out—yeah, I said 60 yards out.

What’s even more compelling is the fact that it was Fry’s idea to kick the 60-yarder. It appears that Fry is definitely all-in for this kicking competition against Pineiro, and will do anything to prove to the Bears’ coaches and fans that he should be the team’s kicker come Week 1 of the regular season.

If you’re wondering what Pineiro did, well, he did absolutely nothing. Head coach Matt Nagy will have both kickers alternate days as the kicker throughout training camp. So we’ll see just how Pineiro will follow up that act on Sunday.
