Who are five players that are worth watching in the Chicago Bears first preseason game?

We all know that the Chicago Bears are not going to show much in the preseason. Matt Nagy has been adamant that he would rather be healthy than show off a lot in the preseason. He will not rest all of his starters for every game, but we will not see Mitch Trubisky and the gang much.

Still, there is a reason to watch the preseason. Roster spots can be won, and depth chart battles can be settled on the field for these next four games. Plenty of jobs and sorting out has been done, even last season.

Players such as Kevin Toliver, Bilal Nichols, and Rashaad Coward were big preseason winners. Who are players that could fall into that category in 2019?

5. Javon Wims

Wims is a known player, but his roster spot is not ensured by any means. He made the roster last season but was mostly inactive throughout the year. From there, the team added Cordarelle Patterson, Riley Ridley and more to the receiver room, which added plenty of competition.

The excellent news for Wims is that he should have more opportunities than anyone else to prove himself in the preseason. Ridley is banged up with a hamstring, and will not see much time, and none of the big starters will play.

Wims will likely work with the “starting” unit. He will be the most talented receiver playing. He will need to act like it. For Wims, you will especially want to look for his route running, and slot usage. These are two areas that can show growth and can show an idea for another spot on the 53-man roster.
