The preseason is about learning. Matt Nagy learned a bit about the new pass interference rule
One of the biggest rule changes that everyone should have their eyes on is the new pass interference rule. The league decided that the Saints loss was so egregious that coaches should be able to challenge pass interference. As any coach should, Matt Nagy is interested in the interpretation of this rule. Whether he agrees with it or not, this is now a rule that should be used to take advantage of.
Can the Bears get an extra 30 yards because of a challenge? What can they get away with on the defensive side of the ball?

Coaches were certainly going to ask questions, look to understand the rules, and push the rules in the preseason to see them in action.
Nagy decided to test the rule in his first preseason game, seeing what he could get away with.
He challenged a call hoping that his offense could pick up some free yards for pass interference. Unfortunately, Nagy lost the challenge and it stood on the field.
This is nothing to freak out about. Nagy knows the rules. He will not go wild in the regular season and cost the team time outs. However, he is curious. He wants to know how far he can push the line, and when he should try to find free yards.
You have to applaud the coach for taking a chance and seeing what he could and could not get away with. Expect Nagy to challenge pass interference again in the next couple of weeks. However, if that leads to zero challenges by him in the regular season, that would not be surprising either.
