The Chicago Bears may have missed out on a kicker they were likely interested in

When the Chicago Bears preseason game was going on, some fans were concerned about a kicking competition breaking out in Baltimore. The Ravens have Justin Tucker, an elite NFL kicker, but Kaare Vedvik is a young up and coming talent waiting behind him.

Vedvik put on a performance in the preseason that had GMs interested. At least four teams called the Ravens about Vedvik including multiple NFC North teams. With the Bears likely included in a bidding war, the kicker wound up going for a fifth-round pick!

While some fans would not want to see the Bears trade a fifth for a kicker, it still stinks to see the Minnesota Vikings were the team to acquire his services. If the Bears were not going to pay for Vedvik,  at least he could not be on the rivals sidelines kicking against them twice per year.

Given the Bears history of kicker, they are going to see Vedvik for a long time, too.

This does not kill the Bears and should not be a huge loss. Adding a kicker like Vedvik would be great, but the price was hefty.

Now, they focus not only on the competition they have going but other kickers as well. Teams will still move on from talent and the demand will settle a bit with Minnesota out of the picture. We know the Bears are exploring all options and were likely helping the price for Vedvik go up.

Still, it certainly was not fun to see a divisional rival swoop in and steal a player the Bears likely had eyes on.
