What could the Chicago Bears 53-man roster after learning everything at training camp?

As the Chicago Bears close out camp and head back to Chicago, there will be less play by play reporting and we will rely much more on the preseason to gauge how players have progressed, and who the team wants to see with certain units.

Still, we gathered plenty of information over the past couple of weeks. Now that the Bears have played a preseason game and are closing up camp, it is a good time to look into who may make the 53-man roster.

Quarterback (2): Mitch Trubisky, Chase Daniel

Tyler Bray is not pushing Daniel who is locked into the number two job. Bray likely will not get calls from other teams and will hang around in Chicago in case of an injury.

Running Back (4): David Montgomery, Tarik Cohen, Mike Davis, Ryan Nall

Three out of four new names, and a bit of a surprise at number four. We all know the top three are on the roster, but for some reason, I have a hard time discounting Nall. His ability to motion into the H-back spot as well as catch passes like a move tight end makes me think that Nagy wants this swiss army knife with the rest of the versatile pieces. Kerrith Whyte will catch on with the practice squad.

Wide receiver (6): Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, Anthony Miller, Cordarelle Patterson, Riley Ridley, Javon Wims

What once seemed like a questionable room seems pretty cut and dry. The Bears are going to keep six, with the versatility of Patterson being able to lineup at running back making the added player worth it. It does not feel as though any of these six are on the bubble, either. Marvin Hall is likely going to need a Taylor Gabriel injury and Emmanuel Hall is destined for the practice squad.

Tight End (4): Trey Burton, Adam Shaheen, Bradley Sowell, Ben Braunecker

Ian Bunting will make a push, but so long as Shaheen is healthy, he can also spend time on the practice squad. Braunecker gets the nod for special teams.

Offensive line (9): Charles Leno, James Daniels, Cody Whitehair, Kyle Long, Bobby Massie, Rashaad Coward, Ted Larsen, Alex Bars, Cornelius Lucas

The starting five is locked in. Larsen is locked in as the swing guard, but Coward and Bars still have work to do. The progression of Coward should have the Bears keeping him and they really like the UDFA Bars, who would have been drafted if it were not for injuries.

Bars saw time at tackle and guard in the preseason, and if he is healthy we should count him on the roster.

Defensive line (6): Akiem Hicks, Eddie Goldman, Bilal Nichols, Jon Bullard, Roy Robertson-Harris, Nick Williams

Another cut and dry position. Nick Williams could use some competition, but it does not appear to be on the roster. Bullard is also in his last year with the team.

Edge Rusher (5): Khalil Mack, Leonard Floyd, Aaron Lynch, Kylie Fitts, Isaiah Irving

The Bears run back the same five from last year. James Vaughters has been the sixth man in camp and the question is really for or five edge rushers more than whether Vaughters will get a shot.

Inside Linebacker (4): Roquan Smith, Danny Trevathan, Kevin Pierre-Louis, Joel Iyiegbuniwe

This is a bit of a surprise as I am going to call for Nick Kwiatkoski to be traded. The Bears get a late pick they gave for Pinerio back and keep Iyiegbuniwe and his special teams’ skill. One thing is for sure, Pierre-Louis should be counted in.

Next. Is OL depth an issue?. dark

Cornerback (5): Kyle Fuller, Prince Amukamara, Buster Skrine, Duke Shelley, Kevin Toliver

If the Bears keep four edge rushers it will be because they added a sixth cornerback. Perhaps John Franklin or Clifton Duck. The other five are locks.

Safety (5): Haha Clinton-Dix, Eddie Jackson, Deon Bush, DeAndre Houston-Carson, Sherrick McManis

These five could be looked at as locks. McManis and Houston-Carson make the team with special teams skills.

Special Teams (3): Elliott Fry, Pat O’Donnell, Patrick Scales

For the big competition, Fry over Pinerio, although an outside option should be considered.
