2. Rashaad Coward
When Coward showed that he was a competent player last season, he took Bears nation by storm. It was the surprise of the preseason as a former nose tackle transitioned easily to offense. However, as the expectations grew, his game may not have been able to keep up.
Progression takes time in the NFL, and the Bears are looking to find that in Cowards second season. However, in the first preseason game, he looked more like he needed to shake some rust off.
Coward was beaten a few times and looked a bit slow off of the line. It was arguably the worst he had looked in his career. As mentioned, he is probably working on much more complex movements and punches and therefore struggling as he refines his game.
Nonetheless, growth will have to come. Coward is raw and only has right tackle experience. This will make keep him on the edge of the 53-man roster for the next couple of weeks. We will see how he responds.
