What are five things we learned from the Chicago Bears second preseason game?

The Chicago Bears second preseason game ended and once again the team saw no starters. Still, while we are not learning whether Mitch Trubisky will take that step forward, we are learning about how good the depth of this team is, and who can win bottom of the roster battles.

There are still valuable snaps to be had. With that in mind, what are five things we learned from this game?

The starters are the starters

The Chicago Bears rested 12 defensive players and 14 offensive players. These would be your “starters”. While there are only 11 starters on each side, these are the players that the team feels they cannot live without.

The usual suspects fill this list. However, a few names are worth noting. Adam Shaheen continues to sit, which is no surprise considering he was hurt in the preseason last year. David Montgomery is not only a starter, but he and Tarik Cohen sat while Mike Davis played. They have a big role in mind for Montgomery that Davis is not cutting into.

If anyone, Cordarrelle Patterson will cut into Montgomery carries. He will not play in the preseason as well. Matt Nagy noted he has a versatile role in the offense, and his plan is being hidden until the start of the regular season.

These three players getting rest is worth noting, while the rest of the starters were expected.
