2. Ian Bunting

Bunting put in a big first game on offense and a big second game on special teams. That is how he needs to make the roster. It is clear that due to his size and ability that he is similar to Adam Shaheen. The team is unsure of his status and he has been banged up so keeping a guy around like Bunting does make sense.

The added special teams value is huge. The issue with Bunting is that like Shaheen, he is raw blocker. However, Shaheen went round two because his physical profile showed a good blocker, and blocking has not been the issue for Shaheen.

For Bunting, he was a UDFA, and an unknown one because he has the Shaheen size, but was nowhere near what was labeled a raw blocker.

Bunting has a long way to go and likely will never be a good blocker. Can his red-zone size, and special teams speed be enough? Can he show any signs of progress to stick around?

1. Clifton Duck

In the first preseason, Duck got on the field relatively early, working the slot and outside. In Week 1 he subbed in for Michael Joseph and John Franklin. In Week 2 he was in the mix with both, even with Kevin Toliver added in.

Next. Identifying practice squad options. dark

Toliver is NFL ready, However, Duck has outplayed Joseph and Franklin the past two preseason games.

The Bears have five cornerbacks likely to make the roster. However, the competition between Duck, Franklin, and Joseph has heated up for what could be a sixth spot. At the very least practice squad positioning is on the line as these three duel things out.
