It took three weeks, but kicker Eddy Pineiro has finally earned a chance to be the Chicago Bears kicker

The Chicago Bears search for a kicker may not be over, but it certainly feels as though it is coming to a close. When the team cut Elliott Fry despite Eddy Pineiro missing as many kicks as him in the preseason, we had noted that Fry may have lost the job, but Eddy Pineiro has won nothing.

Coach Matt Nagy echoed that sentiment and Pineiro did as well. Eddy Pineiro had two weeks on his own to win the competition, and if he did not, the team would look outside to replace him.

Eddy Pineiro stepped up to the plate when called upon. While he has one week to go, it is tough to expect the team to look outside the roster for a kicker now.

Eddy Pineiro went 3-3 in the game with an extra point as well. He nailed a couple of short kicks, but the big winner was a 58-yard kick.

Pineiro was pumped as he nailed the kick right down the middle with leg to be good from 61. It was a big kick, and it was in a stadium he was unfamiliar with.

To be fair, it also was in a dome. That is not the swirling wind of Soldier Field. Nonetheless, it was a big kick with pressure of his job on the line, and he nailed it.

Eddy Pineiro has one game left but he is officially the leader in the clubhouse. It is his job to lose and he is a winner rather than the guy who did not lose.

Good for Eddy Pineiro.
