Running back
We know the Chicago Bears top three running backs. Neither has played since Week 1 of the preseason. However, the Bears are going to keep a fourth. Who is it? Everyone seems to think Kerrith Whyte has the speed that makes him a lock.
However, he fell to round seven and should clear waivers, even though fans will tell you he won’t. The fact of the matter is that while having a skill set that features speed is valuable, the question is what can he do beyond straight-line speed.
Ryan Nall brings less speed, but more versatility, which we know Matt Nagy loves. In fact, it has shown in the playing time disparity.
Nall has played 64 offensive snaps while Whyte has played 46. Nall has been used more as a runner and even broke a big run. He has been used more as a blocker and has been used more a pass catcher as well, leading the team with nine receptions, six more than Whyte.
Nall also has played 35 special teams snaps to the 19 of Whyte. Sure, Whyte has return game value, but Tarik Cohen and Cordarelle Patterson are the best return options in the NFL.
Whyte is more dynamic, but he can prove NFL usage more than Nall, who has versatility and special teams value on his side? Both should see heavy work in this game.
