The run of Jonathan Bullard with the Chicago Bears is officially over
When going through the 53-man roster projection, Jonathan Bullard was an interesting case. The former third round pick once had extreme upside, and was looked at as a value at the draft slot.
However, three years went by and little on the field was shown from Jonathan Bullard. The Bears kept him along as long as they could, but without showing much promise in his fourth NFL season, the team decided it was time to move on.
Bullard never quite lived up to the hype. Coming from Florida he was a talented athlete with great athletic measurable that led to upside. On video, he blew plays up.
However, the issue with him was finding the football and playing within structure. This is what had him fall to round 3.
Bullard spent time behind Mitch Unrein, a much less impressive athlete. Then, Roy Robertson-Harris beat him for the third defensive line spot fair and square.
Rookie Bilal Nichols came in and beat out both Robertson-Harris and Bullard.
Still, coming into year four it was possible Bullard would still be on the roster The team does not have great depth in their defensive line outside of their top four of Nichols. RRH, Akiem Hicks and Eddie Goldman.
Nick Williams made the team as an extra nose tackle, and Abdullah Anderson is still waiting for a call. Whether the Bears keep five players on the defensive line or six, Bullard did not make.
Given hs pedigree he will bounce around the league for a few more years. However, it will be a surprise if any other team can get the lights on.
